Oops

I keep forgetting to put my runs & other work outs in. Alas. New shoes - perhaps a renewed need to remember to post miles to keep track? We’ll see.

Today’s the first day of fall & the weather is gorgeous - mid 60s, sunny with a slight breeze. Welcome back cool weather cough! Man I love fall.

Start weaning…

I’m starting the weaning into running FAST (for me) process by doing a 5′ warm up, running a mile (or however many depending on the week) at a progressively faster pace and a 5′ cool down 5 days a week with a long run on the weekend.

This week it’s 1 mile fast runs, next week 2 mi and so on. Relay is Oct 17th and I run a 4 mile leg. At this point, I just want to see how fast I can get in 5 weeks.

I’ll post as many in here as I can remember, but I forget often. I’m pen to paper visual so sometimes I just write it on my paper and so ends the recording process.

Today I started slow, conversation pace. Easy 6.0mph on the treadmill. Yeah, I’m slow, but it’s okay. The slowest person on my relay team runs that pace, and I know I can go faster than that so I won’t end up being the weakest link.

I’m still waiting anxiously for my new running shoes (Adrenaline/Trance), and I hope they get here before my feet fall apart in these ones that are nearing the end of their life.

Have a lovely day!

Sorry!

I have been horrible about writing down my runs. I haven’t been out with my Garmin in about a month, and haven’t had anything specific to train for, so I have been going on what I consider fun runs (not that they aren’t all fun!). No Garmy, just me & my iPod rambling along. Anyhoo, today we drew straws for the KC Marathon Relay team and I got the 4 mile leg. I will now commence speed workouts to see how fast I can get before Oct 17th. Woo! Run Happy!

Ted E. Bear Hollow 10K

Today was a 10K race which was part of my training plan for the half. I decided to leave Garmin at home and run without looking at my watch 55 times. I wanted to run hard and as fast as I could with the cough that’s been sticking around since my sinus infection & URTI that developed a few weeks ago. I coughed a bunch and chugged my water (if this damn cold doesn’t quit soon I’m going to be very unhappy) but I held strong. I ran negative 5K splits on the road to a 59:52 unofficial time. Instead of reading my watch every 35 seconds, I chased people. For the first half, I held my pace and let people pass me. I passed people little by little but held my pace. I ran by three Creighton basketball players, one of which who later sped up and sprinted by me. Turned around and headed back, picking up the pace slightly so I could start gaining on folks. Ticked people off one by one, including 3 more Creighton players. I finished hard and passed a girl right before the finish and sprinted in strong. It was tough and I was spent, but it went great. Official results aren’t up yet, so I don’t know how I did in the overall scheme of things, but I think it went well enough. It was great turnout for a wonderful cause and the weather was gorgeous.

Now, off to Dundee Day and beer gardens & live music!

The Dreadmill

Today it rained buckets and I had zero free time so I ended up doing half of my workout over the hour I had for lunch. With travel time and change time subtracted from there, I had just under half an hour to get something in. I was going to try for 5K (since I have a 10K Saturday) but I am still coughing a lot while I run, making it hard to go fast. Also, I wanted to be sure to stretch, so I cut it down to a 4K and stretched quick in the gym. Ick I hate short lunches and short work outs!

day 4

Today was day 4 of p90x, which is Yoga X. The program is an hour and a half long and I got up at 6:30 this morning to do it before 9a class. I made it about half an hour in when I got frustrated with the slow pace and repetition it provided. I will definitely try it again next time it’s on the list and will give it the benefit of the doubt. I was probably too tired to function this morning and grumpy and I wasn’t able to clear my mind and give yoga the attention it deserves. The half hour I did went really well, it gave me a chance to stretch the sore muscles and got me pretty loosened up considering. That’s all folks!

Day 2

p90x Day 2 - Cardio X

Workout was great, not as taxing as I thought, but looking at my HR monitor’s showing, I worked my butt off! This one was easier to do in my room (narrow) but the forward-side-back kicks were tough to do without breaking something! Anyhoo, awesome workout for my first day of school & XT day!

Neighborhood Run

Just headed out for about 40 min of running to learn my way around my new neighborhood. Ended up finding a small park with a partially shaded trail that I’m guessing is about a mile or so loop. Will head straight there next time and just do laps - great grass for bare foot running. None today, but perhaps tomorrow early.

It’s very hot out!
